The first of our Autjudo Transnational Conferences got underway in Nenagh, Co Tipperary Ireland on the weekend of the 16th/17th October 2021.
This event was well attended by 92 people from a large cross section of interested parties from across Ireland and Europe. These included ASD students, parents, program volunteers, sports coaches, representatives from various national Judo federations (Judo Ireland, Irish Judo Association & Northern Ireland Judo Federation), representatives from a number of ASD specialist organisations ( Cottage Autism Network, Collective Sensory Group, Autism Friendly Town Committee), and other disability support groups, ASD teachers, school principals, and occupational therapists.
We were also honoured to have the education & coaching director from Special Olympics International present with her team and of course we were delighted to welcome our European Partners from Sweden, Spain, Italy and Switzerland.
In The Netherlands, at this moment (May 10, 2021) judo training is still not allowed. Outside training is, provided that the participants stay at least 1.5m away from each other. Due to the good weather, SNJF/BeterJudo in NL resumed their outdoor trainings on May 7th. This is a short video of this training.
Sunday April 11th, James Mulroy and Cecilia Evenblij organised and hosted the second in their series of six International Online Inclusive Judo Trainings. Once again it was an amazing success with nearly 90 participants from 8 countries including Ireland, Switzerland, Hungary, Italy, Sweden, Netherlands, Finland and Spain. A special thanks to our Italian friends who delivered part of the session.
Next session will take place on 16th May.
Dutch authorities have decided judo is an indoor sport and indoor activities are not allowed during the pandemic.. however, a tent is not considered indoor, so SNJF of the Netherlands hired a big tent to teach in, every Saturday. It is not ideal, it is cold (5 degrees Saturday april 10th), parents are not allowed to watch and participants have to be under 26 but at least we can do our favourite thing!
Apart from that we do a 1-hour video lesson twice a week, on Wednesday for the younglings and on Friday for the more advanced judoka.
So- Tycho together with his daughters Lilo and Nikki made 7 days of simple exercise video instructions for our members, and we asked them to put their exercises on video. Watch the Dutch SN judoka perform!
